Abstract
Addressing Christian mosaics known through visual and written antiquarian documents, this paper discusses the necessity to look at this type of sources going beyond the iconographic information usually considered. A look to documents related to most known antiquarian sources opens questions on the contexts of some lost works and allow to reconsider historiographical convictions in order to reach a new image of medieval art
