Abstract
Open total talar dislocation without associated fractures is an extremely rare injury. There are scant reports in the literature. Accordingly, there
is no consensus about the appropriate treatment of the extruded talus. We present the case of a 33‑year‑old man who sustained an isolated
open total talar dislocation focusing on its management and outcome and review the literature. Open total talar dislocation is a terrible injury
and its treatment is demanding. Early reimplantation of the talus appears to be a relatively risk‑free and feasible procedure. Talectomy should
be considered as a salvage procedure.
