Abstract
This paper questions, from a philosophical point of view, the consequences (relatively to the conditions of education) of the double spreading of digital revolution and generalized individualization within western democracies. This talk is based on the work of M. Gauchet, who defends the idea that individualism should be considered as a phenomenon involving legitimacy principles and systems inherent to a human-social set. First, we present briefly the theories of this author regarding psychology of individuals, focusing particularly on the way M. Gauchet refers to the digital so as to describe how those individuals consider relationships between each other. This drives to introduce the concept of democratic connections. Then, we treat more specifically three inherent problematics: relying on those bases, how can one envisage the possibility for educative institutions 1) to be acknowledged as legitimate by those to whom it is addressed; 2) to fulfil their role for knowledge transmission and cultural mediation; 3) to contribute to the establishment of autonomy of individuals? Setting up a kind of benevolent authority seems likely to contribute to this achievement.
