Abstract
Siluron 2000 is a new type of mixture consisting of varyingly long silicone oil molecules and which exhibits optimal properties during injection and dwell time in the eye. To report the results of the use of Siluron 2000 silicone oil for the treatment of complicated retinal detachment. Patients and Methods Nineteen patients (mean age 65.2 years) underwent vitrectomy, endolaser and Siluron 2000 tamponade for the treatment of retinal detach- ment. Seventeen patients had rhegmatogenous RD and 2 had tractional RD. Results Retinal reattachment was achieved in 19/19 patients (100%). Mean VA improved from 6/24 preoperatively to 6/12 post operatively. Emulsification was observed in 3/19 patients (15.7%) and increased IOP in 3/19 patients (15.7%). Conclusions Sil- uron 2000 is effective as a tamponade agent in the treatment of complicated retinal detachments.
