Abstract

The benefits of cognitive interventions for elderly individuals suffering from cognitive impairments are widely accepted. In this field, Virtual Reality (VR) occupies a prominent place among other advanced technologies since it offers specific advantages for implementing successful trainings. However, there are some concerns about cognitive demands associated with aged population that may limit patients' ability in engaging in virtual environments. The aim of this narrative review it to present and critically discuss an overview of studies about the feasibility and usability issues of VR-based applications for individuals with cognitive impairments. Critical areas will be also identified to guide future research and inform interventions in this promising field.
