Abstract
The aim of this article is threefold. First of all, it describes the evolution of the learning infrastructure as conceived and implemented at the Language Centre of the University of Lausanne over the ten last years. Secondly, it reviews other emergent practices related to the CEFR and the ELP within the institution. Thirdly, it identifies several issues that will have to be tackled in order to ensure coherence for students across the University, since the notion of independent learning is diversely interpreted and, consequently, requirements and practice vary from area to area.
