En 1845, une artiste, Adèle Lauzier, publia un témoignage sur son expérience de « l'autodestruction » et de l'internement asilaire. En retraçant le parcours méconnu de cette femme-peintre, cet article interroge l'histoire de l'automutilation et montre comment l'écrit de Lauzier participe de l'émergence des discours contemporains liant art, féminisme et expérimentations corporelles.
From Creation to Self-Mutilation: the Autopathography of Adèle Lauzier, Painter and Madwoman (France, 19th c.)
In 1845, a painter named Adèle Lauzier published a book where she described how she had been institutionalized after attempting to 'destroy' her body. By recounting Lauzier's little-known story and examining how she originally tied art, feminism and body experiments, this article sheds light on the under-explored history of self-mutilation in the French context.
