Abstract
Aiming to provide insights into the Swiss context for gender equality to school teachers and administrators from diverse national backgrounds, the session began by shedding light on historical perspectives. The presentation then addressed the situation of young women in education and employment, outlining its evolution over the last 20 years. Subsequently, the factors contributing to gender inequalities were explored, emphasizing the role of attitudes, stereotypes, and socialization in shaping career aspirations, for instance. Finally, the focus shifted to the crucial role schools and teachers can play in addressing gender inequality. This involves promoting egalitarian educational practices, dismantling gender stereotypes, and actively opposing sexism. Additionally, the session offered practical ideas for classroom activities while sharing materials and sources. The need for a clear institutional positioning was underscored, as it would foster collective commitment and ensure sustained efforts in the pursuit of gender equality.
