Abstract
Aim. -The authors studied seven measures of pars basilaris from two dimensional (2D) multislice computed tomography (MSCT) reconstructions and determine the most discriminant for the estimation of the foetal age.
Population of study and method. -Our population of study consisted in thirty-seven old fetus from 22 to 40 weeks of gestation. For every individual, we realized 2D MSCT reconstructions in soft and hard filter then we measured seven lengths. The statistical study was realized with the software R. Statistics were performed with determination of the interclass correlation coeffi- cient and the coefficient of correlation R2 and P.
Results. -Seven distances measured in soft and hard filters are correlated between them with a interclass correlation coefficient greater or equal to 0.78. There is a significant relation between the measures and the age independently of the filter (P < 0.001). The most discriminating distances for the estimation of the foetal age are right maximal height (ML) and maximum width (MW) with hard filter (coefficient of correlation R2 for MLd = 0.87, and for MWd = 0.89).
Conclusion. -All the results obtained in this first work from 2D MSCT reconstructions are consistent with the literature concerning the study of bone dry. The widths of the most discriminant for estimating gestational age are distance between the middle of the right horn and the middle of the left horn (MW and L), and the most discriminant height is ML.
