Abstract
The chromosome study of 14 shrews of the genus Crocidura caught in the Tessin confirms the presence of two species South of the Alps C. leucodon and C. suaveolens = C. mimula, but not C. russula. The first is caracterized by 2N = 28 and NF = 56. The new data on C. suaveolens permits the rectification of the karyotype formerly described (Meylan, 1966) and to point out a polymorphism based on the presence of supernumerary autosomes. The 2N in that species is 40, 41 and 42 with respectively a NF of 50, 52 and 54. The taxonomical situation of the Crocidura species living South of the Alps is discussed in relation to these new data.
