Abstract
ALPLANDI: Evaluating the response of alpine plants to predicted climate change by modelling their present and future potential habitat distribution.- Static modelling of plant species distribution is one of many approaches proposed to evaluate the impact of predicted climate change on ecosystems. Models are based on the statistical relationship between plant distributions and bioclimatological factors. The management of digitized environmental information as well as the spatial display of model predictions imply the use of a geographical information system (GIS). Impact scenarios are developped by incorporating the results from climate change scenarios developped by climatologists in the plant distribution models. They show to which extent plant distribution may be affected by climate change. Interpretation of results and the role of such model for environemental management are briefly discussed. Species distribution models have been prepared for the study area of Belalp in the framework of the "Ecocline" projects. An example of potential distribution maps of the alpine sedge Carex curvula ALL. is respectively given under present cliamtic conditiond and under an elevation of mean air temperature of 1,5ºC and 3ºC.
