Building on the growing body of literature that highlights the significance of vertical urbanism and segregation in East Asian cities, this exploratory chapter focuses on Hong Kong and examines how housing inequality contributes to micro-segregation in two ways. First, it discusses housing inequality on the multigenerational level and illustrates that Hong Kong as a vertical city displays significant social disparity within close spatial proximity. Second, through introducing a wealth-based typology of five forms of micro-segregation, it examines how wealth, or the lack thereof, contributes to housing inequality among residential blocks that accommodate different subgroups of the population.
