Mostrando la pervivencia de la materia artúrica y el inagotable potencial semántico de las figuras y amores legendarios de Tristán e Isolda, el estudio se centra en una reescritura mexicana del siglo XX.
Inscrita en el proyecto educativo y cultural de José Vasconcelos, que dio lugar a la publicación en 1924-1925 de dos volúmenes de Lecturas clásicas para niños, esta reconfiguración se titula «La leyenda de Tristán e Isolda» y aparece acompañada por grabados de los mexicanos Roberto Montenegro y Gabriel Fernández Ledesma.
En esta reescritura realizada por Jaime Torres Bodet a partir de la versión modernizada por Joseph Bédier, se examinan algunos procedimientos intertextuales (traducción, adaptación, trasvases interculturales, etc.) y, entre ellos, se destaca la conjunción de texto e imagen que ameniza, potencia y enriquece los conocimientos, la comprensión y la interpretación del (joven) lector.
