The paper aims to reconstruct the political implications of Catherine IIs comedy «O vremya!» (1772). The location of action in Moscow and the chronological allusions make one think that there was a polemical purpose in the play, probably related to the plague epidemics in Moscow in 1770-1772. Russian court version saw the Muscovites superstition was the cause of the horrors of plague. That is why the Empress chose the superstition for the main subject of her first comedy.

В работе реконструируется политический подтекст комедии Екатерины II «О время!» (1772). Выбор места действия (Москва) и хронологическая привязка пьесы указывают на ее полемическую адресацию, связанную с событиями московской чумы 1770-1772 гг. По версии российского двора, ответственность за ужасы эпидемии лежит на суеверии москвичей. Отсюда - выбор темы для драматического дебюта императрицы.
