Abstract
The aim of this article is to question the way Milo Manara depict Hugo Pratt, and more generally to tackle the complicity between those two major authors in the domain of comics in our day and age. The studied corpus comprises on the one hand the series “Les aventures de Giuseppe Bergman” (in which the eponymous hero and his master HP are graphical doubles of Manara and Pratt), and on the other hand the two common achievements of those authors (Manara drawing and Pratt storying). Our analysis essentially relies on conceptualization of authority and on the master – disciple relationship (part 1). Then we analyse the way Manara represents Bergman and HP and how he stages their relationship (part 2). Finally, we investigate the professional and creative relationships between Manara and Pratt, in their common albums but also upstream and downstream those collaborations (part 3).
