Résumé
Increasing the static magnetic field increases the chemical shift displacement error, requires efficient shimming methods and generally results in higher specific absorption rates. Tt is the purpose of this contribution to review recent solutions to these problems and to show that none of these obstacles must be considered detrimental to the use of higher magnetic fields. In vivo spectroscopy at higher static magnetic field benefits not only from the higher signal-to-noise ratio, but also from the improved spectral resolution which is expected to translate directly into sensitivity gains for poorly resolved signals, such as glucose, GABA, glutamine and phosphocreatine.
