The purpose of this paper is to link modern memetic practices to the mechanisms of creation and diffusion of medieval artistic production. The chosen study case focuses on the medievalistic memes related to COVID-19. The aim is to examine the specific perspective provided by the use and the input of the medievalistic imaginary on the memes and to observe the humorous devices. The result is a creation that is both scholarly and popular, and which informs the reception and re-signification of the Middle Ages today.
