Résumé
The involvement of the pharmacy in hospital emergency preparedness, both at international and national levels, deserves an indepth analysis. For this purpose, international literature was systematically screened to sum- marize roles played by hospital pharmacies in disaster situations. A national survey of Swiss hospital pharmacies was also conducted to collect data on actual pharmacies disaster plans. Finally, needs and expectations of the hospital partners at a local level were collected through semi-structured interviews. Internationally, highlighted duties of hospital pharmacist were inventory management and drug distribution. According to the national survey, 83% of answering hospitals have a disaster plan, while only 63% of the pharmacies have one. The main tasks identified were emergency drug supply and participation to crisis management at hospital level. Locally, main expectations were about preparedness of the pharmacy (drug and antidote inventory) and quick mobilization of the co-workers via emergency call lists to provide both logistic and clinical support. Therefore, a hospital pharmacy has to play a substantial role in disaster situations. The gathered information through these various analyses was compiled and lead to the establishment of a disaster plan that can be used in such a pharmacy service in mass casualty incidents.
