The article analyses the dramatic identity and the role of the chorus in Euripides' Electra. Firstly, it highlights the particular identity of the chorus which appears as a connecting element between the center and the periphery of the city. Secondly, the article highlights the failure of the chorus to integrate Electra into its midst, and shows how the chorus even contributes to reinforce her exclusion by supporting the matricide. Finally, the article shows how the first two stasima, each in its own way, reflect the evolution of the role of the chorus in the play.
L’article analyse l’identité dramatique et le rôle du chœur dans l’Électre d’Euripide. Dans un premier temps, il met en évidence l’identité particulière du chœur qui apparaît comme un élément de jonction entre le centre et la périphérie de la cité. Dans un deuxième temps, l’article met en évidence l’échec du chœur qui ne parvient pas à intégrer Électre en son sein, et qui contribue même à renforcer son exclusion en soutenant l’accomplissement du matricide. Finalement, l’article montre comment les deux premiers stasima, chacun à sa manière, reflètent l’évolution du rôle du chœur dans la pièce.
