Marr had dedicated to the Abkhaz language some 50 papers. They could be divides by topics, from the history of the Abkhaz people to its relations with the other Caucasian languages and to the role of the abkhazology in the cultural development of the republic. A less known part of his papers is being conserved at the archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St Petersburg. The paper invites to explore Marr’s “Abkhaz” universe and his implication to the linguistic discussions and to the “language building” in Abkhazia.
