Résumé
Two main approaches have been used to explain the political success of right-wing populist parties: The first is based on individual level analysis and focused the so-called "losers" of globalisation; the second is a geographically oriented perspective and stresses the role of the "left-behind places". Less attention has been devoted "in-between" places, that is regions economically in decline but still prosperous. Using an original survey in a Swiss region, the analysis only partially confirms the "winner" vs "loser" of globalisation thesis while highlights how different forms of territorial belonging matter. Mobile citizens tend to be oriented towards de-bordering, while immobile citizens tend to be inclined to support re-bordering, especially once the mobility is framed as an aspiration for future residence, thus opposing citizens willing to stay in the same region with those ready to move elsewhere.
