Résumé
This article focuses on the discrepancy between the status of Austen as a great novelist in the English-speaking culture as opposed to her reputation as a minor "romancière anglaise" in the French-speaking world, where she has been and often still is regarded as an essentially sentimental and conventional author of popular literature for women.
