Résumé
After the Second World War, new rivalries between the watchmaking firms lead them to invest more in the field of timekeeping. From the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Japanese firm Seiko threats the Swiss monopoly on the international sport timekeeping shared by Omega and Longines – supported by their representatives within the international sports organizations. In response, the president of the Swiss watchmaking federation, Gérard Bauer, uses his network within the Swiss diplomacy in order to defend the watchmaking industry. This contribution recounts both the history of a rivalry between Swiss firms and an international competition in the field of the sports timekeeping.
