Résumé
This article aims to bring to light the political philosophy of education of the neotocquevillian Lipovetsky and to identify the main heuristic resources to think about democratic individualism and the accompaniment of life courses in a society of individuals. Thus, we synthesize and analyze his theory of hypermodernity, and then confront it with three criticisms whose discussion helps us thinking about education for autonomy today. We argue that Lipovetsky’s most decisive contribution to contemporary thinking about education is in helping us understanding the metamorphoses of informal self-formation in cultural capitalism.
