Preface by Véronique Mottier:
This book shows how ideas about sexuality have changed in different historical time periods. It was originally written for English-language readers and concentrates mostly on Western examples. I am deeply aware that it therefore does not do justice to the rich sexual cultures of the Middle East. However, debates over sexual rights and gender rights have been intensifying across the world in recent times. I therefore hope that Persian-speaking audiences will find some interest in the materials covered in this volume, thanks to the excellent Persian translation produced with great expertise as well as perseverance by Ashkan Bharani
