Résumé
Purpose of this study
We aim to evaluate forensic reform effects on thanatological practice in the forensic institute of Toulouse.
Material and methods
This descriptive and comparative study concerned autopsies and external examinations from July 2008 to June 2013.
Results
After reform application, we observed an increase of autopsies rate and violent deaths proportion. Medical examiner practicing more of 50 autopsies per year moved from 1 to 4 between the two periods. Moreover, complementary biological investigations were more commonly performed and analyzed.
Conclusion
Reform application was responsible of quantitative and qualitative consequences on Toulouse thanatological practice implicated institute functional adjustment. It would be relevant to estimate reform effects at the national level.
