Depuis les années 1970 et en particulier dès les années 1980, les artistes, et notamment les photographes, ont utilisé un alter ego et employé la fiction pour se raconter et traiter de questions relatives aux trois principaux signes identitaires : le genre, l’ethnie et l’orientation sexuelle. Le présent article propose d’analyser deux autoportraits d’artistes noirs, l’Afro-Américaine Renee Cox et l’Africain Samuel Fosso, se représentant dans la peau de saint Sébastien. Chacun d’eux, à sa manière, interroge l’identité noire au travers d’un double.
Abstract:
Since the 1970’s and in particular from the 1980’s, the artists, including photographers, have used an alter ego and fiction to represent themselves and deal with issues of the three main signs of identity : gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. This article aims to analyze two self-portraits from black artists, the African-American Renee Cox and the African Samuel Fosso, who show themselves as saint Sebastian.
