Les pneumococcies sont la première cause d'infections bactériennes chez l'adulte âgé. Si la vaccination peut prévenir l'importante morbi-mortalité qui y est potentiellement associée, l'intérêt de la vaccination anti-pneumococcique dans la population adulte et âgée est encore hautement débattu. Un état des lieux de l'efficacité des actuels vaccins anti-pneumococciques dans cette population et les perspectives en matière de prévention contre les infections à S. pneumoniae sont présentés.
Pneumococcal diseases are the first cause of bacterial infections in the aged adult. While the considerable related morbi-mortality is potentially preventable through vaccination, the interest of anti-pneumococcal vaccination in the aging and older adult populations is still actively debated. Effectiveness appraisal of current pneumococcal vaccines in this population and the perspectives in terms of preventive strategies against S. pneumoniae infections are presented.
