Dans un contexte général qui est celui de la requalification des zones périphériques d'habitat individuel appelées à connaître, ces prochaines années, de profondes mutations sociodémographiques, fonctionnelles et morphologiques, cette thèse interroge les modalités d'appropriation quotidienne des territoires ordinaires. Cette interrogation aspire à identifier les leviers propres à permettre aux habitants de ces territoires de révéler la qualité paysagère de leur environnement, de sorte qu'elle soit mieux prise en considération par les producteurs du territoire. Ce faisant, l'accent est mis sur le processus de production du paysage. C'est en effet dans la confrontation et la controverse que les habitants d'un territoire donné en viennent à identifier une valeur esthétique (une « esthétique ordinaire ») à leur lieu de vie.
La problématique de cette recherche s'applique plus spécifiquement à trois projets de densification de zones villas à Genève (Mervelet, Chapelle-Les Sciers, Onex). Ce sont des zones villas qui, dotées de structures sociodémographiques différentes, permettent de tester et de discuter le schéma analytique proposé.

In the next few years, which will seemingly be marked by profound socio-demographic, fiinctional and morphological mutations, suburbs of individual housing will surely have to be reconsidered. In this context, the thesis (which we here wish to examine) focuses on ordinary territories and how they are being appropriated day-by-day. The aim is to identify the mechanisms allowing the inhabitants of these territories to reveal the landscape qualities of their environment so that the landscape can be acknowledged by the différent producers of the territory. Thus, we will highlight the process of landscape production. It is indeed due to confrontations and a controversies that inhabitants of a particular territory start to identify an aesthetic value (an « aesthetic of the ordinary ») on their daily environment.
The questioning of this research applies more specifically to three projects of villa areas' densification in Geneva (Mervelet, Chapelle-Les Sciers, Onex). These villa areas have the particularity to be provided with specific socio-demographic structures that allows to examine and discuss the proposed analytical scheme.
