In several countries, the incidence of thyroid cancer has increased, potenJally reflecJng the growing detecJon of clinically indolent cancer forms (overdiagnosis). This increase may have fuelled an increase in potenJally unnecessary thyroidectomy (overtreatment)
Aim: to assess trends in the incidence and mortality of thyroid cancer and in the use of thyroidectomy to provide indirect evidence of overdiagnosis and overtreatment.
