Résumé
This is a blog post on the ruling by the Hague District Court on Shell's operations in Nigeria (Akpan v Shell). The contribution argues that the ruling is interesting for at least three reasons: jurisdiction, disclosure and the Court's statement that the Nigerian individuals activities clearly exceed 'purely local interests' and will benefit not only the individuals but the rest of the community and the environment.
