Abstract
This chapter proposes to reflect on the theatrical metaphor, its risks and further potentials for staging design and innovation (D&I). It offers first to follow the staging process of a special event in its various dimensions and points to the importance of scenery staging and rehearsals to prepare people, props and technologies for D&I. Second, by entering further in the theatre world, it renders its complexity to a unified take on Theatre. Underlying the variety of configurations, the interrelations between scenography and performance and the active role of materials, objects and techniques and their technicians, it proposes to follow staging as the ongoing orchestration through which a result emerges from the participation of numerous actors, including non-humans. Third, it reflects on the inclusion and framing processes through which audience attention and participation are taken into account from the very beginning of the staging work.
