Abstract
The management of patients with psychological symptoms is common practice for family physicians. Regarding screening, numerous validated tools exist. The most useful are derived from the Patient Health Questionnaire (for anxiety-depressive syndromes) and the Patient Stress Questionnaire (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Concise for alcohol-related problems and General Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire for anxiety disorders). With the aim of improving patient care, better integration of somatic and psychological approaches is essential. Several options are possible, and their respective evaluations are encouraging: integration of mental health professionals into primary care settings and, conversely, integration of primary care professionals into community mental health structures.
