Abstract
Recent research suggests that a sizable consumer segment is holding strong materialistic and green values. However, the potentially negative consequences of this value conflict for well-being are not well understood. Across two studies, we demonstrate that consumers who simultaneously prioritize conflicting values in the form of green and materialistic values report higher levels of psychological tension and lower well-being.
