Abstract
This entry proposes several modalities through which Science and Technology Studies (STS) provide insights into the role of values in engineering design. By focusing on how values are shaped in and through practices, STS reveals that they are not fixed concepts confined to the beginning or end of engineering processes; rather, they are continuously negotiated through everyday interactions within engineering communities. The entry explores how historical contexts, educational backgrounds, and professional networks contribute to the evolution of values; it highlights the materialization of values through engineering practices, and introduces research on how participatory methods and environmental considerations impact engineering design.
