This article discusses the specificities of the emergence and current development of the study of the religion-environment nexus in the francophone context. It situates this discussion within the debate following Lynn White’s article on the ecological implications of the anthropocentric Christian worldview in the 60s. The authors underscore the interdisciplinary character of this field of study and concentrate in particular on the sociology of religion as it unfolds internationally and within a secularist culture.
