Abstract
Targeted and total-body postmortem angiography has become a key imaging method in investigating vascular injuries in cases of trauma and fatal hemorrhages, especially following small vessel ruptures [1–3]. Despite the undoubted benefits of these approaches, relevant questions have been raised pertaining to the consequences that the injection of water-soluble or lipid-soluble liquid contrast media may have on the composition of blood, urine, vitreous humor, and other biological samples routinely collected during autopsy and allotted for toxicologic and biochemical investigations [2, 3]. Indeed, the recommendation has always been to collect specimens for toxicology and biochemistry as soon as possible after the arrival of the corpse at the morgue and prior to any injection of contrast material mixtures into the vascular system.
