Abstract
Under conditions leading to low intracellular concentrations of arginine indospicine (L-2-amino-6-amidinohexanoic acid) inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Indospicine is charged on tRNAArg and incorporated into bacterial protein. In vitro it inhibits the activity of 5-phosphotransferase, the feedback sensitive enzyme of arginine biosynthesis in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
