Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic illness characterized by multiple motor and non-motor symptoms that impact the quality of life of patients and their families. PD requires a patient-centered therapeutic approach. Therapeutic patient education (TPE) is an effective response to this challenge. TPE is a structured, person-centered learning process that supports patients in self-monitoring and self-management of their health by drawing on their own resources. It promotes behavior changes from the moment of diagnosis and throughout the disease course. Patients take an active role in their own care. TPE has demonstrated its beneficial impact on health and economic outcomes in PD. It should be systematically integrated into the pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of all patients living with PD.
