Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to summarize trends in crime and justice in Switzerland between 1985 and 1999 and to investigate some possible explanations of them. The six serious offenses studied are burglary, motor vehicle theft, robbery, serious assault, rape, and homicide. The key questions addressed are similar to those stated in the chapter on England and Wales. These questions were addressed using police and conviction statistics as well as victimization survey data.
